ABOUT US
The Northern Territory Arboriculture Association is a standing committee chapter of Arboriculture Australia, our national industry body.
The role of the Northern Territory Arboriculture Association Committee (NTAA) is to improve the arboriculture and vegetation management industry in the Northern Territory. It works to promote the value of trees and the use of qualified arborists to the public. It also promotes safe work practices to its members and acts as a socialising and networking opportunity for local tree people.
Incepted in 2012, this committee of valued arborists have spent more than a decade sharing their knowledge and love of trees in the Top End.
The NTAA is responsible for:
- Organising an ISA-format climbing competition
- Delivering local industry events and workshops
- Building and maintaining positive networks and relationships that encourage exchanges of skill and ideas
- Raising awareness and promoting recognition of Arboriculture
- Advocating for the best interests of Northern Territory arborist
- Facilitating communication between local industry and Arb Aus
- Promoting upskilling, education, safety, quality workmanship and professionalism
- Promoting and supporting quality training
- Encouraging a sustainable, fair and diverse industry and promoting the value of trees
- Maintaining an active committee

ABOUT TREES
There is no precise definition of what a tree is, but typically a tree is defined as a large plant, usually with a single stem or trunk (but not always), that is mainly made up of wood and continues to grow in girth as it ages. Large palms are also generally regarded and managed as trees.
- Reducing greenhouse emissions by sheltering nearby buildings from sun and wind
- Reducing the urban heat island effect in a time of climate change to improve liveability and comfort
- Improving air quality for our atmosphere and water quality for our waterways and bays
- Sequestering carbon from the atmosphere to help prevent climate change
- Increasing habitat to support biodiversity
- Providing food such as fruits, nuts, spices and olives
- Increasing the life of infrastructure through weather protection
- Improving the visual amenity of streetscapes and neighbourhoods
- Increasing real estate value of properties with tree lined streets
- Improving the health of residents by encouraging them to walk and be more active
